Masa kecil
Garth Brooks dilahirkan 7 Februari 1962 sebagai anak bungsu dari 6 bersaudara di Tulsa, Oklahoma. Ia dibesarkan di Yukon, Oklahoma.[8]. Ayahnya bernama Troyal Brooks bekerja sebagai tukang gambar untuk perusahaan minyak. Ibunya adalah penyanyi musik country yang dikontrak oleh Capitol Records pada tahun 1950-an dan bintang tamu reguler dalam acara Red Foley Show.[8][9][10] Sejak kecil Brooks sudah tertarik dengan musik. Walaupun minat yang sesungguhnya adalah bidang atletik, ia sering bernyanyi di depan anggota keluarga yang lain. Di sekolah menengah atas, ia menjadi anggota tim sepak bola Amerika, tim bisbol, dan menjadi pelari atletik. Setelah tamat sekolah menengah atas, ia kuliah di Universitas Negara Bagian Oklahoma-Stillwater di Stillwater setelah diterima melalui beasiswa atletik sebagai pelempar lembing.[10][11] Sambil aktif di berbagai cabang olahraga, ia lulus dengan gelar di bidang periklanan pada tahun 1984.[11]
