Arthur Ira Garfunkel (lahir 5 November 1941) adalah seorang penyanyi sekaligus aktor berkebangsaan Amerika Serikat yang terkenal dengan duo Simon and Garfunkel.

Masa kecil

Lahir di Forest Hills distrik Queens, New York City sebagai Arthur Ira Garfunkel, orangtuanya adalah keturunan Yahudi-Rumania. Di kelas 6 sekolah dasar, ia bertemu dengan Paul Simon yang di kemudian hari menjadi pasangannya dalam duo Simon dan Garfunkel. Dari tahun 1956 hingga 1962, keduanya mulai tampil sebagai duo dengan menggunakan nama Tom & Jerry. Garfunkel senang mengikuti perkembangan lagu-lagu yang sedang populer di tangga lagu, sehingga mendapat julukan "Tom Graph" (Tom yang suka "memprediksi" lagu hit).

Di awal tahun 1960-an, Garfunkel kuliah di Universitas Columbia. Di sana ia bergabung dengan Kingsmen, sebuah kelompok vokal pria yang bernyanyi cara a cappella. Semasa kuliah, ia juga menjadi anggota fraternitas Alpha Epsilon Pi. Pada tahun 1962, Garfunkel menamatkan kuliah dan mendapat gelar Bachelor of Arts bidang sejarah seni, dan dilanjutkannya hingga mendapat gelar pascasarjana di bidang matematika.
