Budi Eka Putra studied fine arts at SMSR Padang, West Sumatra from 1997 to 2005 and at ISI (Indonesian Institute of the Arts) Fine Arts Department, Yogyakarta. He is part of the Sakato Group, Indonesia’s up and coming artistic collective from the region of Sumatra, which is expected to become the next Jendela Group.

Inspired by daily objects, animals,rope,tree and geometric forms he creates superimposed images that combine all these elements. For a while he experimented with knots and pieces of string as subject matter, where he explored all the possibilities of texture, color and creating the illusion its multi-dimensionality.

In his later works, he started to incorporate measuring tapes in his creations. To create a realistic depiction that went beyond the canvas, he began to include elements such as fiber class and masking tape to recreate his illusion.
