Budi daya ikan
Budidaya perikanan adalah salah satu bentuk budidaya perairan yang khusus membudidayakan ikan di tangki atau ruang tertutup, biasanya untuk menghasilkan bahan pangan, ikan hias, dan rekreasi (pemancingan). Ikan yang paling banyak dibudidayakan adalah ikan mas, salmon, lele, dan tilapia.[1]
Terdapat permintaan yang tinggi untuk ikan di seluruh dunia sehingga menyebabkan overfishing di sektor perikanan tangkap. Budidaya perikanan menyediakan sumber alternatif penyediaan ikan. Namun budidaya ikan karnivora seperti salmon tidak selalu mengurangi usaha perikanan tangkap karena nutrisi yang dibutuhkan ikan salmon spesifik dan seringkali sulit dibudidayakan, seperti ikan kecil yang mengandung minyak ikan yang menjadi mangsa utama ikan salmon di alam liar. Berdasarkan data FAO, total ikan yang dibudidayakan secara global pada tahun 2008 mencapai 33.8 juta ton dengan nilai mencapai US$ 60 miliar.[2]
