"National Register Information System". National Register of Historic Places. National Park Service. .

This template provides a standardized inline reference for the National Register of Historic Places' NRIS database as a source.

There are several versions of the NRIS database:

  • version 2010a: July 9, 2010 - Version released December, 2010, with database changes up to just July 9.
  • version 2009a: March 13, 2009 – Used in probably 10,000+ wikipedia articles. This version was available for download from the National Park Service until about July 2010. It was soon reuploaded on the NPS Focus website at http://nrhp.focus.nps.gov/natreg/docs/All_Data.html.
  • version 2008b: April 24, 2008 - Used in 1,206 articles that still included this as of January 2011 (according to this report)
  • version 2008a: April 15, 2008 - Used in several thousand wikipedia articles, some later updated to use a later version.
  • version 2007b: June 30, 2007 - Used in 296 wikipedia articles that still included this as of January 2011
  • version 2007a: January 23, 2007 - Used in several thousand wikipedia articles, some later updated to use a later version.
  • version 2006a: March 15, 2006 - Used in 315 wikipedia articles that still included this as of January 2011
  • Various scattered dates given which reflect no actual NRIS version, but rather an editor's usage of the date field as an accessdate rather than an NRIS date. To be considered errors, and addressed by updating the NRIS information in those articles.

Unexpected dates put the articles into Category:NRISref errors, a cleanup category for NRHP editors to address by updating NRIS information. There are 0 articles in Category:NRISref errors right now.

Because this database is in the public domain and might become unavailable, it would be good if a copy of the database could be deposited in a permanent public archive, too.
