Revolusi Agung, dinamakan juga Revolusi 1688, adalah penggulingan Raja James II dari Inggris (James VII dari Skotlandia) oleh sebuah perserikatan anggota parlemen Inggris dengan stadtholder Belanda William III dari Oranye. Invasi sukses William terhadap Inggris dengan armada dan tentara Belanda menyebabkan naiknya dia atas takhta Inggris sebagai William III dari Inggris bersama-sama dengan istrinya Mary II dari Inggris, putri James, dalam hubungannya dengan dokumentasi Rancangan Undang-Undang Hak 1689.

Kebijakan Raja James mengenai toleransi beragama setelah 1685 menghadapi meningkatnya penentangan oleh para anggota dari kalangan politik terkemuka, yang terganggu oleh agama Katolik raja dan hubungan dekatnya dengan Perancis. The crisis facing the king came to a head in 1688, with the birth of the King's son, James Francis Edward Stuart, on 10 June (Julian calendar).[a]
