Pada Januari 2017, beberapa hari setelah pemerintahan Partai Demokratis Sosial pimpinan Sorin Grindeanu diambil sumpahnya, protes massal terjadi di seluruh Rumania menentang rancangan undang-undang pemerintah yang diusulkan oleh Kementerian Kehakiman mengenai pengampunan regarding the pardoning of certain committed crimes, and the amendment of the Penal Code (especially regarding the abuse of power).
