HIV-1 protease (PR) adalah sebuah enzim protease aspartat retrovirus (retropepsin), yang terlibat dalam hidrolisis ikatan peptida dalam retrovirus, dan merupakan enzim penting daram siklus hidup HIV (retrovirus penyebab AIDS).[1][2] HIV protease memutus poliprotein Gag dan Gag-Pol[3]) yang baru disintesis pada sembilan titik berbeda untuk menghasilkan komponen-komponen protein yang membentuk virion HIV. Tanpa HIV protease yang bekerja dengan baik, partikel-partikel virus HIV tidak dapat menginfeksi sel.[4][5][6]
