Prohormon

Prohormon atau Prohormone atau Proandrogen adalah suatu prekursor hormon yang hal itu sendiri memang tidak memiliki atau bisa dikatakan hampir tidak memiliki suatu Efek hormonal, tetapi awalnya harus diubah menjadi sebuah hormon didalam metabolisme. Peng-aktifan (aktivasi) seperti itu sering diatur dengan banyak cara, yang artinya juga akan menyimpulkan bahwa efek hormon untuk kebutuhan fisik saat ini dipengaruhi oleh metabolisme tubuh.

Riwayat

Kongres ke-108 telag mengamandemen Controlled Zat Act untuk memasukkan AAS dan menambahkan informasi tentang steroid dan juga prekursor steroid. Amandemen ini kadang-kadang disebut sebagai Anbolic Steroid Control Act of 2004.

Hal pertama yang dilakukan pada amandemen ini adalah memasukkan definisi AAS sebagai berikut: Istilah "steroid nabolik berarti segala obat atau zat hormonal, yang secara kimia dan farmakologis terkait dengan testosteron yang selain daripada: Estrogen, Progestin, Kortikosteroid, dan Dehidroepiandrosteron).

Walaupun Begitu, Terlepas dari definisi yang telah disebutkan tersebut, dokumen tersebut menyebutkan juga istilah Prohormon yang sekarang paling banyak dikenal.
