Balai Pemasyarakatan Kelas I Malang Bapas Malang is a Technical Implementation Unit under the Directorate General of Corrections of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights. Bapas Malang is located at Jalan Barito No. 1 Malang City.

Sejarah

The history of the establishment of the Correctional Center (Bapas), began during the Dutch East Indies Government, namely with the establishment of the Reclassering Jawatan which was established in 1927.

The activities of Jawatan Reclassering are to provide further guidance for prisoners, guidance for juvenile and adult prisoners who get parole, and child development. This institution only worked for 5 (five) years and was subsequently frozen due to the economic crisis caused by World War I.

The establishment of the Correctional Center is inseparable from the change of the prison system into a correctional system on April 27, 1964. The use of the correctional system in Indonesia aims to reintegrate lawbreakers based on Pancasila and the 1945 Constitution. Through this change, the Directorate General of Corrections was formed which oversees two directorates, namely the directorate that handles the development of prisoners in correctional institutions, as well as the handling of prisoners outside correctional institutions. The directorate that handles the development of prisoners outside the penitentiary is the Directorate of Community Guidance and Child Custody (BISPA). In 1997, the BISPA nomenclature changed to Correctional Center as stipulated in the Decree of the Minister of Justice of the Republic of Indonesia Number M.01-PR.07.03 of 1997.

Class I Correctional Center Malang, which was previously named the Community Guidance and Child Detention Center (Balai BISPA), was officially formed on April 1, 1970 based on the Letter of the Minister of Justice of the Republic of Indonesia No. YS.1 / 6 195, by occupying an office on Jalan Bengawan Solo Number 52 Malang. In 1973, Bapas Malang moved to Jalan Barito Number 1 Malang City until now. In 2003, Bapas Malang was established as a Class I Correctional Center (Echelon III-a) through the Decree of the Minister of Justice No. M.16.PR.07.03 of 2003 concerning the Class Improvement of Correctional Centers from Class IIA to Class I and Correctional Institutions from Class IIB to Class IIA. The change to Class I Correctional Center focuses on the greater task load with a wider working area.

Specifically for Lumajang District, Bapas Class I Malang only handles juvenile cases, while adult cases are the scope of work of Bapas Class II Jember.

Bentuk Pelayanan Bapas Malang

1. Penelitian Kemasyaratan Balai Pemasyarakatan Kelas I Malang melaksanakan permintaan pembuatan Laporan Penelitian Kemasyarakatan (Litmas) berdasarkan kebutuhan dari intansi lain.
2. Pendampingan terhadap Anak yang Berhadapan dengan Hukum (ABH) dilaksanakan sesuai dengan amanat Undang-Undang Sistem Peradilan Pidana Anak (UU SPPA) Nomor 11 Tahun 2012.

Balai Pemasyarakatan Kelas I Malang membuka kesempatan bagi mahasiswa yang memiliki minat di bidang Pemasyarakatan, khususnya yang berkaitan dengan tugas, pokok, dan fungsi Bapas, untuk melakuan penelitian maupun magang dan Praktik Kerja Lapangan (PKL) di Balai Pemasyarakatan Kelas I Malang.
