Craig Theodore Nelson[1] (lahir 4 April 1944)[2] adalah aktor asal Amerika Serikat. Ia dikenal karena perannya sebagai Hayden Fox dalam sitkom ABC, Coach (di mana ia memenangkan Primetime Emmy Award untuk Aktor Utama Luar Biasa dalam Serial Komedi), Deputy Warden Ward Wilson dalam film Stir Crazy tahun 1980, Steve Freeling dalam film tahun 1982, Poltergeist, Burt Nickerson dalam All the Right Moves (1983), Peter Dellaplane dalam Action Jackson, Chief Howard Hyde dalam Turner & Hooch (1989), Alex Cullen dalam The Devil's Advocate (1997), Chief Jack Mannion dalam drama CBS The District ( 2000–04), The Warden dalam sitkom NBC My Name Is Earl (2005–09), dan pengisi suara Bob Parr/Mr. Incredible dalam film The Incredibles tahun 2004 dan sekuelnya tahun 2018. Awal kehidupan
Craig Theodore Nelson lahir pada tanggal 4 April 1944,[1][3] di Spokane, Washington.[4] Ia adalah putra dari Vera Margaret (née Spindler; 1906–1971), seorang penari, dan Armand Gilbert Nelson (1900–1964), seorang pengusaha.[1][3]
Nelson bersekolah di SMA Lewis and Clark, tempat dia bermain sepak bola, baseball dan bola basket.[3][5]
Setelah sekolah menengah, Nelson belajar di Universitas Washington Pusat.[6] Setelah gagal, Nelson pergi ke Yakima Valley College di mana dia terinspirasi untuk belajar akting oleh guru dramanya, Mr. Brady.[7] Dari Yakima, ia melanjutkan studi drama di Universitas Arizona dengan beasiswa.[3][8]
Pada tahun 1969, Nelson putus sekolah dan pindah ke Hollywood untuk mengejar karir akting.[3] Saat pertama kali pindah ke California, dia bekerja sebagai penjaga keamanan di pabrik sabun hingga mendapatkan pekerjaan sebagai penulis komedi.[3]
Kehidupan pribadi
Nelson memiliki tiga anak dari pernikahan sebelumnya dengan Robin McCarthy.[3] Istri keduanya Doria Cook-Nelson adalah seorang penulis lepas, presiden asosiasi seni bela diri, instruktur karate, guru tai chi dan mantan aktris film dan televisi yang memiliki peran dalam film musikal Mame.[3]
Nelson adalah penggemar olahraga motor dan pembalap yang rajin. Dia pertama kali berpartisipasi dalam Toyota Celebrity Grand Prix Long Beach tahun 1991[3] dan finis kesembilan. Pada tahun 1992, ia mendirikan Screaming Eagles Racing bersama John Christie dan masuk serta mengendarai Spice SE90 bermesin Toyota di IMSA 1994 WSC, Spice SE90 bermesin Lexus pada tahun 1995, dan Riley & Scott MkIII bermesin Ford pada kejuaraan tahun 1996 dan 1997.[9]
