The Amazing Race 22 adalah edisi kedua puluh dua dari acara televisi realitas The Amazing Race. The Amazing Race 22 menampilkan beberapa tim yang masing-masing terdiri dari dua orang, dengan hubungan yang sudah ada, dalam perlombaan mengelilingi belahan dunia.

Musim ini dijadwalkan akan tayang perdana pada hari Minggu, 17 Februari 2013, di CBS pada jam 8 malam.

Los Angeles Griffith Observatory adalah starting line di season 22 Amazing Race.

Musim ini akan disiarkan pada pertengahan 2012-13. Dalam sebuah wawancara dengan TV Guide, Keoghan mengungkapkan bahwa hadiah Double Your Money yang diperkenalkan pada musim lalu tidak akan disertakan di musim ini. Sebaliknya, tim pertama yang tiba di Pitstop leg pertama, akan menerima Express Pass, tetapi ada kejutan baru, ada Express Pass tambahan untuk tim lain yang mereka pilih sebelum leg 4.

Musim ini akan mengarungi perjalanan sejauh 30.000 mil (48.000 km) dalam perjalanan 5 benua dan 9 negara,dengan kunjungan pertama kali ke French Polynesia, di mana tim melakukan skydive setinggi 10.000 kaki di Bora Bora. Tugas lain yang sudah dikonfirmasi adalah "Balap Shemozzle" di Selandia Baru, berburu kalajengking dengan Bushmen di Bostwana dan Swiss, di mana tim akan pergi ke Gunung Eiger.

Babak 1 (Amerika Serikat → Polinesia Perancis, Perancis)

Untuk babak pertama The Amazing Race 22, tim mengunjungi pulau Bora Bora di Polinesia Perancis.

Di Roadblock pertama, satu anggota dari setiap tim harus mengisi daftar hadir untuk bisa naik helikopter dari enam kali penerbangan yang disiapkan. Satu helikopter hanya mampu memuat dua peserta per satu kali penerbangan. Mereka kemudian melakukan terjun payung, tandem bersama penerjun payung profesional, dari ketinggian 10.000 kaki (3.000 m) di atas laut sementara rekan mereka harus mencari jalan ke lokasi pendaratan menggunakan taksi air. Ketika kedua anggota tim telah bertemu, mereka akan mendapatkan petunjuk selanjutnya. Di Roadblock kedua, anggota tim yang lain harus mencari petunjuk selanjutnya yang terkubur di antara sekitar 400 istana pasir. Jika mereka tidak menemukan petunjuk di salah satu istana pasir, maka mereka harus membangun kembali istana pasir tersebut sebelum melanjutkan pencarian di istana pasir berikutnya.

Tugas tambahan

• Di awal perlombaan, tim berlomba mencapai mobil Ford Fusion yang merekam informasi tentang tujuan pertama mereka: Bora Bora. Petunjuk tersebut juga menambahkan bahwa hanya tersisa tempat untuk lima tim untuk bisa ikut kloter pertama dari Los Angeles. Sedangkan kloter kedua akan berangkat ke Bora Bora satu jam setelah kloter pertama.
• Setelah menyelesaikan Roadblock kedua, tim harus merakit sebuah perahu cadik yang bernama va'a dan mendayung sekitar 1 mil (1,6 km) menuju Pit Stop.

Babak 2 (Polinesia Perancis, Perancis)

Salah satu pilihan Detour di Bora Bora berkaitan dengan tradisi ternak mutiara (gambar diambil di Rangiroa).

Detour pada babak ini menyajikan pilihan antara Pick a Pearl dan Take a Trunk. Untuk melakukan kedua Detour tersebut, tim harus mengambil sepasang sepatu selam dan peralatan snorkeling yang telah disediakan di kapel Hilton Bora Bora Nui. Untuk Pick a Pearl (Memanen Mutiara), tim pergi ke lautan terbuka yang berjarak setengah mil dari pantai, tempat mereka harus menyelam untuk melepaskan untaian kerang tiram, yang harus mereka buka cangkangnya untuk menemukan dua buah mutiara merah. Setelah menemukan kedua mutiara, tim harus berenang menuju seorang nelayan mutiara di atas perahu untuk menukarkan mutiara tersebut dengan petunjuk selanjutnya. Sedangkan untuk Take a Trunk (Mengambil Kotak Harta), tim harus menyelam ke bawah laut, memakai helm selam khusus, untuk mencari tumpukan kotak harta karun. Kemudian mereka harus membawa salah satu kotak ke bawah sebuah payung besar yang tertanam di dasar laut dan mengeluarkan semua isi kotak tersebut sambil menatanya menjadi meja piknik bawah laut. Ketika meja sudah siap untuk dipakai, seorang pelayan bawah laut akan menyerahkan petunjuk berikutnya kepada mereka. Pada Roadblock babak ini, salah satu anggota tim ikut serta dalam uji kekuatan tradisonal Polinesia. Yaitu berjalan dengan egrang sambil menendang kelapa sepanjang 35-yard (32 m) di tepian pantai. Jika peserta tersebut jatuh dari egrangnya, maka ia harus kembali ke garis awal, sementara posisi kelapa yang mereka tendang tidak dirubah. Ketika peserta tersebut mampu menendang kelapa melewati batas akhir, tim diperbolehkan melanjutkan perjalanan mereka ke Pit Stop.

Tugas tambahan

• Setelah tiba di Hilton Bora Bora Nui, tim harus mencari lokasi sebuah kapel, tempat seorang pendeta Polinesia akan memberikan pemberkatan agar mereka selamat di perjalanan, sebelum menyerahkan petujuk selanjutnya.
• Setelah menyelesaikan Detour, tim harus mengendarai personal water craft dan menggunakan peta lokal untuk pergi menuju Motu Tapu, yang disebut-sebut sebagai "the most photographed isle in the South Pacific", tempat mereka akan menemukan petunjuk selanjutnya.

Babak 3 (Polinesia Perancis, Perancis → Selandia Baru)

Teams visited the valley below New Zealand's Mount Hutt for the tasks on this Leg of the Race.

The Detour was a choice between Rev It Up and Reel It In. Both Detour choices required teams to use all-terrain vehicles to reach the Detour tasks. In Rev It Up, both team members had to drive a modified vintage car through a set of cones in under a combined 83 seconds. Once both racers completed the course within the time limit, they would receive their next clue from "Flash". In Reel It In, each team member had to use a rod and reel to catch one fish that was at least 12 inci (30 cm) long. Once both fish were caught, champion fisherman Dirk would give them their next clue. In the Roadblock, one racer ran a muddy obstacle course known as a "Shemozzle". After dressing in gum boots, stubbies shorts, and a burlap sack, racers picked a shepherd and farm dog and then ran through the course where they would be covered in molasses and feathers, climbing over hay bales, then finally riding an inner tube down a slide into a manure pond, while collecting chicken eggs along the way, that they put in a basket at the end of the course. Once they had 12 unbroken eggs in their basket, a task that took multiple runs of the course, a shepherd would give them their next clue.

Additional tasks

• Upon arriving in Christchurch, teams had to find marked Ford Focuses and drive themselves to the Rakaia River Gorge. At the gorge, they picked a number for a jet boat that would take them up river for their next clue the following day.

Babak 4 (Selandia Baru → Indonesia)

On Bali, teams visited the Ubud Monkey Forest where the monkeys would help them get their next clue.

The Detour was a choice between Sandy Bottom and Fruity Top. In Sandy Bottom, teams dredged volcanic sand from the bottom of the Ayung River and then transported it uphill 200 yard (180 m) to a brick maker. Once they filled their container to a designated line, the brick maker would give them their next clue. In Fruity Top, after donning sarongs, teams had to prepare a traditional Balinese religious offering known as a gebogan (Indonesia), made from various arranged fruits. It would then be carried in a procession to to the Pura Desa Puseh Temple in Batuan where it would be blessed before it would be placed on an altar. Once complete, the local priest would give them their next clue. For the Roadblock, one team member had to go to Ketut's Surf Shop and search amongst several surfboards for one that had the image of someone they had all previously seen on the race: the Tahitian priest. After taking a surfboard, teams had to search for their partner and then meet Phil at the Pit Stop. However, Phil would only check them in at the Pit Stop once they had the correct surfboard, turning teams back if they were wrong.

Additional tasks

• Upon arriving at the Ubud Monkey Forest, teams had to get a coconut and leave it for one of the crab-eating macaques to open. Once the coconut was cracked open, a "monkey expert" would retrieve the canister inside that held their next clue, the Detour.

Babak 5 (Indonesia → Vietnam)

In Hanoi, teams took part in the múa sạp, a traditional Vietnamese bamboo dance.

In the Roadblock, teams watched a patriotic Vietnamese song performance. At the end of the performance, a phrase ("Vinh quang thay thế hệ thanh niên chúng ta"; "Glory to our young generation") was displayed on the stage. Without being allowed to take any notes, racers had five minutes to search the nearby gallery for one of several political posters featuring the phrase. If they picked a poster with the correct quote, the judge would give them their next clue. If the racers did not find the correct quote within the allotted time, they had to watch the performance again before being allowed to continue searching. The Detour was a choice between Make Your Move and Make Your Meal. In Make Your Move, teams went to the Temple of Literature where they had to set up a human chess board. Using a nearby cờ tướng board as a guide, teams had to find four human chess pieces that had symbols matching the pieces on the board and then set them up with four staffs in position on the human chess board. After putting each piece in the right position, the chess master would hand them their next clue. In Make Your Meal, teams had to prepare Vietnam's national dish phở. After picking up two empty baskets and two baskets of live chickens at the Ngoc Son Temple, teams had to navigate the a street market of Hanoi to pick up the rest of the ingredients on a shopping list, all with specific weights and amounts, and then find a cooking station to cook the soup. After preparing two bowls of phở gà, the chef would do a taste test and then give them their next clue if it was prepared to his liking.

Additional tasks

• At Công viên Thống Nhất, teams had to participate in a traditional Vietnamese bamboo dance known as múa sạp before receiving their next clue.
