The Let’s Talk! Programme is a not-for-profit community project founded by Yayasan Bunda Siti Banun (YBSB) in Medan, Indonesia. The programme’s primary focus is in education of the English language to students and teachers throughout Indonesia. It was officially established on 2nd October 2014 by YBSB patron H. Herludiansyah Pane during a 4-day launch event at Centre Point Medan.
Vision & Mission
The Let’s Talk! Programme, together with YBSB, gives back to society by transforming itself into a revolutionary philanthropic organization that propels the nation towards creating globally competitive individuals in the country.
Vision:
To transform the lives of students so that they will be able to explore the world, acquire information, produce innovative new ideas and communicate their ideas and opinions clearly.
Mission:
To promote effective English communications through our dedicated leadership programmes which will then be adopted and replicated by schools in the capital cities and rural areas of Indonesia.
Programme Initiatives
The Let’s Talk! Programme focuses on assisting students and teachers in developing English proficiency, leadership, communication and personal growth. Accordingly, the programme uses the Accelerated Learning (AL) methodology to make learning the English language fun and easy for everyone. Lessons through AL is highly interactive and makes the language easier to understand as it provides a holistic learning experience which consists of visual, audio, games and kinesthetic elements.
Programme Interventions
What sets the Let’s Talk! Programme apart is its three Programme Interventions for students, teachers and Master Trainers respectively. Each Programme Intervention was customized to enhance the learning capabilities of students, the teaching comprehension of local school teachers and the preparatory skills of Master Trainers.
Intervention for Students
The Programme Intervention for Students is for those aged 15 to 17 years old. Students in this age bracket are the primary target because the Let’s Talk! Programme can benefit them the most immediatelyin preparation for either a higher tertiary education or a career in the job market.
The intervention for students is taughtconcurrently in participating schools throughout Indonesia and lasts for a duration of 3-months at a time. It starts with a 5-day orientation when students will have their minds reset and ready for the lessons ahead. The orientation is a necessary component of the programme as it helps dispel the belief among students that learning the English language is difficult. Then from the 6th day onwards, the actual English lessons consisting of 30 modules will commence and are complemented by the programme’s Accelerated Learning methodology.
Upon completion, the Let’s Talk! Programme will proceed to the next group of participating schools where a new 3-month intervention for students begins.
Intervention for Teachers
The Programme Intervention for Teachers is targeted primarily at English teachers at local schools throughout Indonesia. This intervention lasts for a duration of 3-months and focuses on improving the ways English is taught to students of these schools. Once again, the intervention starts with a 5-day orientation period whereby the mind sets of teachers are reset and prepared to transition tothe new teaching methods as advocated by the Let’s Talk! Programme.
Then from the 6th day onwards, teachers will undergo lessons consisting of 12 modules using the Accelerated Learning methodology. In turn, guidance will also be provided to teachers on how best to utilize the effectiveness of the programme’s Accelerated Learning methodology when transferring their knowledge to students in the classrooms.
Upon completion, the Let’s Talk! Programme will proceed to the next group of participating schools where a new 3-month intervention for teachers begins.
Intervention for Master Trainers
As the people responsible for conducting interventions for both students and teachers, Master Trainers are entrusted to run the Let’s Talk! Programme independently and ensure participants have the confidence to keep learning and improving themselves. This is why all prospective Master Trainers are personally and professionally trained through an intensive Programme Intervention for Master Trainers to ensure their preparedness.
Thetraining is for a period of 6 months which is inclusive of theoretical classes and hands-on practical on-the-job training where these future Master Trainers will be mentoredduring interventions for students and teachers to evaluate their performances – and graduate as a Master Trainer proper. Currently, the programme envisions developing 64 local Master Trainers by 2016.
Upcoming Initiatives
The Let’s Talk! Programme will continue to develop trainers, and to bring English to schools throughout Indonesia over the next 10 years. There will also be on-going roadshows that will be held in other parts of Indonesia to spread awareness of the Let’s Talk! Programme. In the words of patron H. Herludiansyah Pane himself, “Our goal is to have the Let’s Talk! Programme implemented nationwide and we believe that we will get the support of local authorities and the government, as English is essential for a national transformation.”
Programme Identity
As the visual identity of our programme, there are many personalized elements which make the Let’s Talk!brand and logo design uniquely its own.
The Brand Name
The name Let’s Talk! is specifically chosen to represent the brand values of our English learning programme. It is a distinctive phrase in the English language that presents Let’s Talk! as an inviting and fun programme to encourage Indonesians to ‘speak up’ in English with self-confidence.
The Exclamation Point Logotype
When presented in logotype form, the Let’s Talk! name is always written with an exclamation point at the end. This is to emphasize our commitment towards making a difference from start-to-finish in the lives of our students, every step of the way.
Speech-Bubble Brand Symbol
The main feature of our design is a speech-bubble icon which expands from the apostrophe of the logotype. This formation consists of 20-dots in a depiction of the Let’s Talk! Programme’s twenty-twenty vision for excellence.
While the icon as a whole is symbolic of the Let’s Talk! Programme, each of these dots also represents the individual knowledge and confidence of our students – attributes that grow bigger, together.
4-Key Vibrant Colour Tones
Overall, a palette of vibrant tones further describes how we make learning fun for everyone. Further to which, these four collective colours are also used to depict the 4 key tenets of the Let’s Talk! Programme’s ability to Communicate, Articulate, Accelerate and Develop English language proficiency among students throughout Indonesia.
Additionally, the specific number of each coloured dot also provides a deeper meaning relating to the development of our students:- It starts with Green dots showing how they are nurtured to Articulate from the Heart, then Purple and Pink dots to represent their enhanced potential to Develop Connectedness with the Programme’s Accelerated Learning experience, and finally Bluedots to symbolize our students’ open potential to Communicate Clearly now with the rest of the world.
