Eamon Duffy
Eamon Duffy FSA FBA KSG (lahir 1947) adalah seorang sejarawan Irlandia. Dia adalah Profesor Emeritus Sejarah Kekristenan di Universitas Cambridge , dan anggota serta mantan presiden Magdalene College.[1]
Kehidupan awal
Duffy lahir pada tanggal 9 Februari 1947, di Dundalk , Irlandia [2]. Ia menggambarkan dirinya sebagai "tempat lahir Katolik". Ia menempuh pendidikan di Sekolah St Philip dan Universitas Hull . Dia melakukan penelitian pascasarjana di Universitas Cambridge , di mana penasihat doktoralnya adalah Owen Chadwick dan Gordon Rupp [3].
Karir akademis
Duffy berspesialisasi dalam sejarah agama Inggris abad ke-15 hingga ke-17 . Ia juga mantan anggota Komisi Sejarah Kepausan.[4] Karyanya telah banyak membantu membalikkan citra populer agama Katolik pada akhir abad pertengahan di Inggris sebagai agama yang hampir mati, dan malah menampilkannya sebagai kekuatan budaya yang dinamis. Pada hari kerja dari 22 Oktober hingga 2 November 2007, ia mempersembahkan serial BBC Radio 4 10 Popes Who Shook the World [5]– paus yang ditampilkan adalah Petrus , Peter, Leo I, Gregory I, Gregory VII, Innocent III, Paul III, Pius IX, Pius XII, John XXIII, and John Paul II.
Duffy pindah ke Magdalene College di Universitas Cambridge pada tahun 1979, dan menjadi profesor sejarah agama Kristen dari tahun 2003 hingga 2014. Sejak tahun 2014 ia menjadi Profesor Emeritus[6] . Pada tahun 2004 ia terpilih sebagai Anggota Akademi Inggris[7] .
