Grand Prix Sepeda Motor musim 1996 adalah musim Kejuaraan Dunia F.I.M. Road Racing ke-48.
Ringkasan Musim
[sunting | sunting sumber]Honda Mick Doohan melanjutkan dominasinya di kelas 500 dengan 8 kemenangan.[1] Rekan setimnya di Repsol Honda, Àlex Crivillé mengalahkannya dua kali di Austria dan Republik Ceko.[1] Luca Cadalora, sekarang bersama tim Honda Kanemoto meraih dua kemenangan selama empat tahun berturut-turut.[1] Harapan Suzuki pupus ketika Daryl Beattie menderita cedera kepala dalam kecelakaan pramusim.[1] Dia kembali hanya untuk crash di Spanyol lalu dua balapan kemudian di Prancis yang secara efektif mengakhiri karirnya.[1] Loris Capirossi memenangkan 500 Grand Prix pertamanya ketika Crivillé bertabrakan dengan rekan setimnya, Doohan di lap terakhir putaran Australia.[1] Tim Eropa baru memulai debutnya dengan tim Elf menggunakan mesin Swissauto V4 sidecar dalam sasis ROC.[1] Itu terbukti cepat tetapi tidak dapat diandalkan. Honda memperkenalkan NSR500V, V twin sebagai alternatif hemat biaya untuk tim privateer.[1]
Max Biaggi merebut gelar juara 250 ketiga berturut-turut untuk Aprilia.[1] Haruchika Aoki diulang sebagai juara 125 untuk Honda.[1] Pendatang baru yang memenangkan Grand Prix pertama mereka adalah Norifumi Abe di kelas 500, Olivier Jacque di kelas 250 dan Valentino Rossi di kelas 125.[1]

Perubahan kalender
[sunting | sunting sumber]- Grand Prix Prancis pindah dari Bugatti Circuit di Le Mans ke Circuit Paul Ricard karena overbid di Le Mans, Sirkuit Bugatti Circuit kembali di 2000.
- Grand Prix Austria kembali dari kalender setelah absen satu tahun dan berpindah dari Salzburgring ke Österreichring, satu tahun sebelum trek diganti namanya menjadi A1-Ring.
- Grand Prix Indonesia telah ditambahkan ke kalender.
- Grand Prix Argentina awalnya dijadwalkan, tetapi akhirnya dibatalkan.
- Grand Prix Eropa diubah namanya menjadi Grand Prix Catalan.
