Pengenalan iris adalah metode identifikasi biometrik otomatis yang memakai teknik-teknik susunan matematika pada citra-citra video dari satu atau dua iris dari mata seseorang, karena susunan kompleksnya bersifat unik, stabil, dan dapat dilihat dari beberapa jarak. Kemampuan yang ditekankan dari seluruh teknologi biometrik tergantung pada jumlah entropi[1] yang dapat dikodekan dan dipakai dalam pencocokan.
