Lohri (bahasa Punjabi: ਲੋਹੜੀ (Gurmukhi), لوہڑی (Shahmukhi)) adalah sebuah perayaan Punjabi populer,[1][2] yang dirayakan oleh orang-orang dari wilayah Punjab di Asia Selatan.[3] Asal mula Lohri adalah berbagai perayaan yang berada di wilayah Punjab.[4] Beberapa orang percaya bahwa perayaan tersebut untuk memperingati terjadinya titik balik musim dingin[5] karena Lohri aslinya dirayakan pada hari titik balik musim dingin,[6] dimana siang hari sangat pendek dan malam hari sangat panjang pada hari itu.[7][8]

[sunting | sunting sumber]Terdapat berbagai asal mula Lohri: semua bentuk bagian dari folklor. Namun, tema utama Lohri adalah kepercayaan bahwa Lohri adalah perayaan kebudayaan titik balik musim dingin.[9][10] Lohri artinya dirayakan pada hari terpendek pada suatu tahun.
Menurut foklor, pada zaman kuno, Lohri dirayakan pada hari titik balik musim dingin.[11][12] Perayaan tersebut adalah untuk alasan bahwa orang0orang mempercayai bahwa malam Lohri menandakan malam terpanjang pada suatu tahun. Setelah itu, hari setelah Lohri dirayakan sebagai Maghi Sangrand.[13][14]
