Dalam taksonomi, Ferroplasma adalah genus dari Ferroplasmaceae.[1]
Genus Ferroplasma hanya terdiri dari tiga spesies. Spesies tipe, F. acidophilum, adalah anggota besi-oksidasi asidofili dari Euryarchaeota. Hal ini umumnya ditemukan dalam tailing tambang asam, yang terutama berlimpah dalam kasus-kasus yang parah drainase tambang asam, di mana organisme lain seperti Acidithiobacillus dan Leptospirillum telah menurunkan pH lingkungan sehingga asidofili obligat F. acidophilum diperbolehkan untuk berkembang.
