Jack David Zipes (lahir 7 Juni 1937) adalah profesor emeritus Jerman, pakar sastra komparatif, dan kajian budaya, yang telah menerbitkan dan memberi kuliah tentang sastra Jerman, teori kritis, budaya Yahudi Jerman, sastra anak-anak, dan cerita rakyat. Pada akhir kariernya, ia menerjemahkan dua edisi utama cerita Brothers Grimm dan berfokus pada dongeng, evolusinya, serta peran sosial dan politiknya dalam proses pembudayaan.

Menurut Zipes, dongeng "memiliki fungsi sosial yang bermakna, tidak hanya sebagai kompensasi tetapi juga pengungkapan: dunia yang diproyeksikan oleh dongeng terbaik kita mengungkapkan kesenjangan antara kebenaran dan kepalsuan dalam masyarakat".[1] Argumen-argumennya didasarkan pada teori kritis Mazhab Frankfurt dan teori evolusi budaya.
