Lukisan sejarah

Lukisan sejarah adalah sebuah genre dalam lukisan yang diartikan oleh materi subyeknya ketimbang gaya artistiknya. Lukisan sejarah biasanya menggambarkan sebuah peristiwa dalam sebuah cerita naratif, ketimbang subyek statis dan spesiifik, seperti halnya sebuah potret. Kebanyakan lukisan sejarah bukanlah adegan dari sejarah, khususnya lukisan-lukisan dari sebelum sekitar tahun 1850.
