Sinema Brasil diperkenalkan pada awal abad ke-20 namun butuh beberapa waktu untuk menjadikan sinema tersebut sebagai bentuk hiburan terkenal. Industri film Brasil mengalami naik turun selama bertahun-tahun.
Sejarah

[sunting | sunting sumber]Dua bulan setelah penemuan Lumière bersaudara, sebuah pameran film diadakan di Rio de Janeiro. Pada awal 1898, Alfonso Segreto dari Italia melakukan pemfilman di Teluk Guanabara dari kapal Brésil pada saat perjalanan pulang dari Eropa, meskipun beberapa peneliti mempertanyakan peristiwa tersebut karena tidak ada salinan dari film tersebut yang masih ada. Ia membuat dokumenter-dokumenter dengan saudaranya Paschoal Segreto.
