François Viète (bahasa Latin: Franciscus Vieta; 1540 – 23 Februari 1603), Seigneur de la Bigotière, adalah seorang matematikawan Prancis. Pada tahun 1591, ia memperkenalkan seni-seni analitis, menyarankan untuk menggunakan huruf-huruf konsonan seperti B, C, D dan seterusnya untuk melambangkan angka-angka yang tidak diketahui dan menggunakan huruf-huruf vokal yaitu A, I, U, E dan O untuk melambangkan angka-angka yang diketahui.
