Benny lahir pada 14 Februari 1894 dengan nama Benjamin Kubelsky, di Chicago, Illinois, dan tumbuh di Waukegan, Illinois.[2] Ia merupakan putra dari Meyer Kubelsky dan Emma Sachs Kubelsky.
