Pengunduran diri Vanwall, yang diyakini sebagai akibat dari tingginya tingkat kematian pada musim 1958, meninggalkan Ferrari sebagai satu-satunya tim pemenang balapan di kejuaraan. Demikian pula, pengunduran diri Juan Manuel Fangio dan Mike Hawthorn berarti bahwa untuk pertama kalinya, tidak ada juara dunia yang berada di grid. Mobil revolusioner Cooper bermesin tengah, yang ditenagai oleh mesin 2,5 liter Coventry-Climax yang ringkas, memenangkan lima balapan bersama Jack Brabham, Stirling Moss dan Bruce McLaren. Ada tiga Grand Prix yang dijadwalkan pada tahun 1959 yang dibatalkan. Jack Brabham (foto pada tahun 1966) asal Australia berhasil memenangkan gelar Kejuaraan Dunia Pembalap yang pertama dari tiga gelar Kejuaraan Dunia Pembalapnya, dengan mengendarai mobil untuk tim Cooper-Climax.

Formula Satu musim 1959 merupakan musim Kejuaraan Dunia FIA Formula Satu yang ke-10, yang dimulai pada tanggal 10 Mei 1959, dan berakhir pada tanggal 12 Desember setelah sembilan lomba.[1] Di musim ini juga digelar beberapa balapan non-kejuaraan yang melengkapi lomba-lomba resmi. Tampil sebagai juara dunia adalah Jack Brabham. Sementara gelar juara dunia konstruktor berhasil diraih oleh tim Cooper Car Company.

Juara dunia bertahan, yaitu Mike Hawthorn, meninggal dunia di musim ini akibat kecelakaan jalan raya yang ia alami di Inggris, beberapa bulan sebelum musim 1959 di mulai.

Pengunduran diri Vanwall, yang diyakini sebagai akibat dari tingginya tingkat kematian pada musim 1958, meninggalkan Ferrari sebagai satu-satunya tim pemenang balapan di kejuaraan. Demikian pula, pengunduran diri Juan Manuel Fangio dan Mike Hawthorn berarti bahwa untuk pertama kalinya, tidak ada juara dunia yang berada di grid. Mobil revolusioner Cooper bermesin tengah, yang ditenagai oleh mesin 2,5 liter Coventry-Climax yang ringkas, memenangkan lima balapan bersama Jack Brabham, Stirling Moss dan Bruce McLaren. BRM juga meraih kemenangan perdananya di tangan Jo Bonnier. Aston Martin muncul dengan mobil yang, dalam menghadapi revolusi mesin tengah belakang Cooper, sudah ketinggalan zaman dan kelebihan berat badan.

Grand Prix Jerman diadakan untuk kedua kalinya di sirkuit AVUS berkecepatan sangat tinggi, di mana Jean Behra dari Ferrari terbunuh selama balapan mobil sport yang tidak terkait di belakang kemudi Porsche.

Tony Brooks dari Ferrari bertarung melawan Coopers dan memasuki balapan terakhir, ia, Moss atau Brabham bisa memenangkan gelar. Moss mengundurkan diri dari balapan, Grand Prix Amerika Serikat perdana, memberi Brabham keunggulan. Brabham kehabisan bahan bakar di lap terakhir tetapi mendorong mobilnya melintasi garis untuk finis keempat. Dengan Brooks yang tidak mampu melakukan yang lebih baik dari ketiga, Brabham menjadi Juara Dunia Australia pertama sementara Cooper memenangkan mahkota konstruktor.

Ada tiga Grand Prix yang dijadwalkan pada tahun 1959 yang dibatalkan. Grand Prix Argentina, yang dijadwalkan akan diadakan pada bulan Januari, dibatalkan karena para jagoan seperti Juan Manuel Fangio dan Jose Froilan Gonzalez telah pensiun, tidak ada minat lokal dan balapan segera dibatalkan. Grand Prix Belgia dijadwalkan diadakan pada bulan Juni, tetapi dibatalkan karena perselisihan mengenai uang start. Dan akhirnya, Grand Prix Maroko dijadwalkan akan diadakan pada bulan Oktober di Ain-Diab tetapi dibatalkan karena alasan keuangan.
