Jenis Asam Lemak Omega-3

Asam lemak omega-3 adalah asam lemak tak jenuh ganda (PUFA) yang ditandai dengan adanya ikatan rangkap tiga atom dari gugus metil terminal dalam struktur kimianya. Mereka tersebar luas di alam, menjadi konstituen penting dari metabolisme lipid hewan, dan mereka memainkan peran penting dalam makanan manusia dan fisiologi manusia.[1][2] Tiga jenis asam lemak omega − 3 yang terlibat dalam fisiologi manusia adalah asam α-linolenat (ALA), ditemukan dalam minyak nabati, dan asam eikosapentanoat (EPA) dan asam dokosaheksaenoat (DHA), keduanya umumnya ditemukan dalam minyak laut.

Alga laut dan fitoplankton adalah sumber utama asam lemak omega−3. Sumber umum minyak nabati yang mengandung ALA termasuk kenari, biji yang dapat dimakan, minyak biji bijak clary, minyak ganggang, minyak biji rami, minyak Sacha Inchi, minyak Echium, dan minyak rami, sedangkan sumber omega − 3 asam lemak hewan EPA dan DHA meliputi ikan, minyak ikan, telur dari ayam yang diberi makan EPA dan DHA, minyak cumi-cumi, minyak krill, dan ganggang tertentu.
