Bus rel Bathara Kresna adalah bus rel (rail bus) milik PT Kereta Api Indonesia, yang beroperasi di rute Solo Purwosari-Wonogiri dan merupakan proyek kerja sama Pemerintah Kota Surakarta dengan PT KAI, pada saat Kota Surakarta dipimpin oleh Joko Widodo. Bus rel ini adalah bus rel kedua di Indonesia setelah bus rel Kertalaya di Sumatera Selatan. Bus rel ini diperkenalkan kepada publik pada tanggal 26 Juli 2011 dan diresmikan oleh Menteri Perhubungan RI Freddy Numberi^[1], di Surakarta bersama dengan bus bertingkat pariwisata. Bus rel ini mulai beroperasi pada tanggal 5 Agustus 2012 dengan rute Sukoharjo-Solo Purwosari-Yogyakarta Tugu.^[2] Karena ada jembatan kereta api yang sedang diperkuat antara Stasiun Pasarnguter-Stasiun Wonogiri, untuk sementara bus rel ini hanya sampai Stasiun Sukoharjo.^[2]

Bus rel ini berhenti beroperasi pada sekitar awal tahun 2013, setelah mangkrak sejak Oktober 2012 karena generator rangkaian bus rel yang sering rusak.^[1] Bus rel ini dibawa ke pabrik PT Inka di Madiun untuk diperbaiki.^[1] Hingga 2015 bus rel ini hanya dikandangkan di dipo lokomotif Solo Balapan^[3], sampai pada akhirnya PT KAI memutuskan untuk mengoperasikan kembali bus rel ini. Saat ini bus rel telah beroperasi kembali dengan rute Purwosari-Wonogiri pp dengan rute trayek dua kali sehari.

Karena adanya gangguan operasional pada bulan Juni 2015, rangkaian bus rel ini untuk sementara tidak beroperasi dan berada di bengkel.^[4] Merespon hal tersebut, DAOP 6 Jogja mensiasati perjalanan kereta api ini menggunakan rangkaian cadangan kereta api Prambanan Ekspres berbasis KRD MCW yang mana berjalan dua pekan untuk menunggu selesainya perbaikan.^[4] Dengan selesainya perbaikan, semenjak Juli 2015 hingga saat ini bus rel beroperasi dengan rangkaian aslinya.

Uji coba 2014-2015

Tanggal 4 Desember 2014, bus rel ini kembali diujicobakan oleh PT KAI dan Dinas Perhubungan, Komunikasi, dan Informatika Kota Surakarta. Bus rel ini rencanannya dioperasikan pada 6 Februari 2015 dengan rute Solo-Sukoharjo-Wonogiri dengan tarif Rp4.000,00.^[5] Namun pada awal Februari 2015, Kementerian Perhubungan Indonesia menunda pengoperasian tersebut^[6] hingga Maret 2015.

Memasuki bulan Maret 2015, kembali diumumkan bahwa bus rel akan diluncurkan kembali pada tanggal 11 Maret 2015, dengan operasional untuk umum dimulai pada tanggal 12 Maret 2015. Bus rel ini secara resmi beroperasi kembali dengan diresmikanya oleh Menteri Perhubungan Ignasius Jonan pada tanggal 11 Maret 2015 di Stasiun Purwosari.^[7]

Asal usul istilah

Nama Bathara Kresna berasal dari tokoh Mahabharata, Krishna atau Kresna yang bertugas menyelamatkan dunia dan menegakkan kebenaran setelah perang di Kurukshetra. Karakteristik tokoh tersebut kemudian dilekatkan pada bus rel ini sehingga menumbuhkan kebanggaan bagi setiap penumpangnya.
