Sejarah
Jersey dianeksasi oleh William Longsword, pemimpin Kadipaten Normandia, pada tahun 933. Keturunannya, William si Penakluk, menguasai Inggris pada tahun 1066 yang mengakibatkan Duchy Normandia dan kerajaan Inggris dipimpin dalam suatu bentuk pemerintahan monarki. Raja John kehilangan seluruh wilayahnya di Normandia daratan tahun 1204 kepada Raja Perancis, tetapi tetap menguasai Kepulauan Channel yang sejak saat itu berstatus pemerintahan sendiri.
Jersey diduduki oleh Nazi Jerman dari 1 Mei 1940 hingga 9 Mei 1945 semasa Perang Dunia II.
Geografi
Luas Pulau Jersey ialah 118,2 km² yang terletak di Selat Inggris, sekitar 22,5 km dari Semenanjung Cotentin di Normandia, Perancis. Dia merupakan pulau terbesar dan paling selatan di Kepulauan Channel.
Ekonomi
Ekonomi Jersey bergantung pada layanan finansial, pariwisata, internet dan pertanian. Pajak pertambahan nilai (PPN) tidak diberlakukan di pulau ini, sehingga harga barang mewah sering kali lebih murah daripada di Inggris. Pada tanggal 13 Mei 2005, parlemen Jersey menyetujui diberlakukannya pajak barang dan jasa terhitung mulai tahun 2008.
Produk pertanian terbesar ialah kentang dan susu.
Demografi
Sekitar 50% populasi Jersey bukan penduduk pribumi. 30% populasi terkonsentrasi di Saint Helier, satu-satunya kota di Jersey. Dari 88.000 penduduk, 40%-nya keturunan Jersey/Norman dan 40% lainnya keturunan Britania. Kelompok minoritas terbesar adalah orang Britania, Portugal (terutama orang Madeira), Irlandia dan Polandia. Komunitas Perancis juga hadir di sana.
