Kereta api Mutiara Selatan merupakan kereta api penumpang Kelas Eksekutif dan Ekonomi AC Premium yang dioperasikan oleh PT Kereta Api Indonesia Daerah Operasi I Jakarta dengan Melayani Rute Tersebut Gambir-Surabaya Gubeng-Malang via Bandung-Tasikmalaya-Cilacap dan Sebaliknya. Mulai 1 Desember 2019 Jadwal KA Mutiara Selatan diperpanjang menjadi sampai Stasiun Gambir, mengingat PT KAI akan segera Merilis GAPEKA 2019. Kereta Api ini akan menjadi Perjalanan KA penumpang terlama yakni kurang Lebih 20 Jam mengalahkan perjalanan KA Wijayakusuma.

Rangkaian

Tampak Kereta api Mutiara Selatan sedang berhenti di Stasiun Cepu, 2008. Akibat peristiwa anjloknya kereta api ketel di Kertosono, jalur menuju Kertosono-Solo Balapan terpaksa ditutup sehingga saat itu rute KA ini dialihkan sementara melalui jalur utara via Surabaya Pasarturi.

Semula, semenjak operasional pertamanya pada 17 Agustus 1972, kereta api ini dijalankan dengan rangkaian campuran kelas eksekutif dan bisnis, bersama dengan KA Turangga yang juga memiliki konfigurasi kelas bisnis dan eksekutif. Tetapi, mulai 11 Oktober 1999, semua rangkaian KA Mutiara Selatan diganti dengan kelas bisnis, sedangkan KA Turangga menjadi kereta api kelas eksekutif.

Pada 28 September 2016, KA Mutiara Selatan diganti seluruh rangkaiannya dengan kereta ekonomi new image buatan tahun 2016 dengan susunan rangkaiannya yang terdiri atas 6-7 kereta ekonomi (K3), 1 kereta makan dan pembangkit (MP3), dan 2 kereta barang hantaran paket (B). Mulai 3 Oktober 2016 KA Mutiara Selatan diperpanjang rutenya sampai Malang.

Tak berselang lama setelah itu KA Mutiara Selatan kembali menggunakan rangkaian lamanya yang merupakan kereta kelas bisnis karena adanya masalah kenyamanan penumpang. Susunan rangkaiannya terdiri dari tujuh kereta bisnis (K2), satu kereta makan dan pembangkit (MP2 atau KMP2), serta kereta bagasi (B).

Mulai 13 Maret 2017 rangkaian KA ini kembali menjadi campuran kelas eksekutif dan bisnis seperti pada masa awal operasionalnya pada tahun 1972 lalu.

Mulai 1 April 2019, KA Mutiara Selatan akan resmi menggunakan kereta eksekutif dan ekonomi AC premium terbaru yang berbodi stainless steel buatan PT INKA Madiun, lengkap dengan kereta makan dan kereta pembangkitnya yang juga baru.

Mulai 1 Desember 2019 Rangkaian Kereta api Mutiara Selatan tersebut akan dimutasi Ke Jakarta Kota (JAKK) serta berhubungan akan diperpanjang sampai ke Gambir.

Keterangan:

(*) Kereta bagasi dilepas di Surabaya Gubeng untuk dilangsir menuju Stasiun Surabaya Kota, sedangkan KA Mutiara Selatan sendiri melanjutkan perjalanan menuju Malang. Dari Malang KA Mutiara Selatan berjalan tanpa membawa kereta bagasi, barulah sesampainya di Surabaya Gubeng ditambahkan kereta bagasi di rangkaian bagian belakangnya.

Tarif

Tarif kereta api ini adalah antara Rp220.000,00-Rp650.000,00 untuk kelas eksekutif dan Rp100.000,00-Rp400.000,00 untuk kelas ekonomi premium, bergantung pada jarak tempuh, subkelas/posisi tempat duduk dalam rangkaian kereta, serta hari-hari tertentu seperti akhir pekan dan libur nasional. Selain itu, berlaku pula tarif khusus yang hanya dapat dipesan mulai dua jam sebelum keberangkatan kereta api ini pada stasiun-stasiun yang terdapat dalam rute berikut:

Bandung - Banjar maupun sebaliknya: eksekutif Rp90.000,00 dan ekonomi premium Rp70.000,00
Bandung - Tasikmalaya maupun sebaliknya: eksekutif Rp80.000,00 dan ekonomi premium Rp60.000,00
Solo - Yogyakarta maupun sebaliknya: eksekutif Rp55.000,00 dan ekonomi premium Rp40.000,00
Madiun - Jombang / Solo maupun sebaliknya: eksekutif Rp70.000,00 dan ekonomi premium Rp40.000,00
Madiun - Yogyakarta / Surabaya maupun sebaliknya: eksekutif Rp100.000,00 dan ekonomi premium Rp70.000,00
Yogyakarta - Surabaya maupun sebaliknya: eksekutif Rp230.000,00 dan ekonomi premium Rp110.000,00
Yogyakarta - Malang maupun sebaliknya: eksekutif Rp285.000,00 dan ekonomi premium Rp135.000,00
