Penyandian aliran adalah penyandian kunci simetris yang tiap angka teks asalnya digabungkan dengan aliran sandi acak semu (aliran kunci). Dalam penyandian aliran, tiap angka pada teks asal dienkripsi satu per satu dengan angka berletak sama pada aliran kunci untuk membuat aliran teks tersandi. Pada praktiknya, angka yang dimaksud adalah satu bit dengan operasi XOR.
