I am so dreadfully sorry about the explosion last night on Soi 93 Sukhumvit just I was quite certain I saw one of the sewer bores of a heroin dealer earlier in Sukhumvit Soi 33 near Santana bar. Tel Aviv-Yafo (Ibrani: תֵּל־אָבִיב-יָפוֹ, translit. Tēl-ʾĀvīv-Yāfō; Arab: تَلّ أَبِيب – يَافَا, translit. Tall ʾAbīb-Yāfā), atau hanya disebut sebagai Tel Aviv, adalah sebuah kota pesisir dan merupakan sebuah kota metropolitan di Israel. Nama "Tel Aviv" (Tel Abib) dalam bahasa Ibrani berarti "bukit semi", sebuah judul yang diberikan pada alihbahasa buku Theodor Herzl's Altneuland (Negara Lama Baru). Nama "Tel Aviv" diambil oleh sang penterjemah, Nahum Sokolov, dari buku Yehezkiel dari Alkitab.

Kota Tel Aviv sendiri memiliki penduduk sekitar 405.000, tetapi daerah metropolitannya memiliki penduduknya sekitar 3.850.100 jiwa. Kemudian pada bulan Juli 2003, pusat kota Tel Aviv ditetapkan oleh UNESCO sebagai Situs Warisan Dunia, karena arsitekturnya dalam gaya Bauhaus. Kota kosmopolitan ini juga memiliki komunitas Arab (Palestina) yang cukup besar. Pada tahun 1950, kota Tel Aviv digabung dengan kota Jaffa menjadi Tel Aviv-Yafo. Komunitas Arab terutama berada di Yafo atau Jaffa.

Kota bertembok Jaffa adalah satu-satunya wilayah umum di pusat kota di mana sekarang Tel Aviv berada di awal zaman modern. Kota ini didirikan paling lambat sekitar 1.800 SM. Pada saat Tel Aviv didirikan sebagai kota terpisah selama pemerintahan Utsmaniyah di wilayah tersebut, Jaffa telah diperintah oleh bangsa Kanaan, Mesir, Filistin, Bani Israil, Asyur, Babilonia, Akhemeniyah, Fenisia, Ptolemaik, Seleukia, Hashmonayim, Romawi, Bizantium, Kekhalifahan Islam awal, Tentara Salib, Ayyubiyah, dan Mamluk sebelum berada di bawah kekuasaan Utsmaniyah pada tahun 1515. Kota ini telah diperangi berkali-kali. Kota ini disebutkan dalam dokumen Mesir kuno, serta Alkitab Ibrani.

Selama Aliyah Pertama tahun 1880-an, ketika para imigran Yahudi mulai berdatangan di wilayah tersebut dalam jumlah banyak, lingkungan baru didirikan di luar Jaffa di wilayah Tel Aviv saat ini. Yang pertama adalah Neve Tzedek, didirikan pada tahun 1887 oleh Yahudi Mizrahi karena kepadatan penduduk di Jaffa dan dibangun di atas tanah milik Aharon Chelouche.[3]

Pendirian pada Periode Utsmaniyah Akhir[sunting | sunting sumber]

Perluasan kembali terjadi pada Aliyah Kedua. Pada tahun 1906, diinisiasi oleh Akiva Aryeh Weiss, sebuah kelompok bernama Ahuzat Bayit ("wisma") terbentuk, yang bertujuan untuk membentuk "pusat kota Ibrani di lingkungan yang sehat, direncanakan sesuai dengan aturan estetika dan kebersihan modern".[4] Meir Dizengoff, yang kelak menjadi walikota pertama Tel Aviv juga bergabung dengan kelompok Ahuzat Bayit.[5][6] Visinya untuk Tel Aviv untuk menciptakan kehidupan yang damai dan berdampingan dengan orang Arab.

Pada tanggal 11 April 1909, 66 keluarga Yahudi berkumpul di gundukan pasir yang sunyi untuk membagi-bagikan tanah dengan lotere menggunakan kulit kerang. Perkumpulan ini dianggap sebagai tanggal resmi berdirinya Tel Aviv. Dalam setahun, jalan Herzl, Ahad Ha'am, Judah Halevi, Lilienblum, dan Rothschild dibangun; sistem pengairan dipasang; dan 66 rumah telah diselesaikan.[7] Di ujung Jalan Herzl, sebidang tanah dialokasikan untuk gedung baru Sekolah Tinggi Ibrani Herzliya, yang didirikan di Jaffa pada tahun 1906.[7]

Pada tahun 1914, Tel Aviv telah berkembang menjadi lebih dari 1 km2 (247 hektar).[7] Sensus tahun 1915 mencatat populasi Tel Aviv mencapai 2.679 jiwa.[8] Pertumbuhan ini terhenti pada tahun 1917 ketika otoritas Utsmaniyah mengusir penduduk Jaffa dan Tel Aviv sebagai kebijakan masa perang.[7] Orang Yahudi pada akhirnya bisa kembali ke Tel Aviv di akhir tahun berikutnya, ketika Perang Dunia I berakhir dan kalahnya Utsmaniyah, Britania Raya menguasai Palestina.

Pemerintahan Britania Raya 1917–34: Kotapraja di munisipalitas Jaffa[sunting | sunting sumber]

Tel Aviv (bersama dengan kotamadya Jaffa lainnya) ditaklukkan oleh Britania Raya pada akhir 1917 selama Kampanye Sinai dan Palestina di Perang Dunia I dan menjadi bagian dari Mandat Palestina yang dikelola Britania Raya hingga 1948. Tel Aviv menerima statusnya sebagai township ("kotapraja") atau dewan lokal di dalam munisipalitas Jaffa pada tahun 1921.[9] Menurut sensus tahun 1922, kotapraja Tel Aviv memiliki populasi 15.185 jiwa, terdiri dari 15.065 orang Yahudi, 78 orang Muslim, dan 42 orang Kristen.[10]

Dengan meningkatnya imigrasi orang Yahudi di bawah pemerintahan Britania Raya, gesekan antara orang Arab dan Yahudi di Palestina meningkat, hingga pecahnya Kerusuhan Jaffa pada tanggal 1 Mei 1921. Akibat konflik ini, banyak orang Yahudi meninggalkan Jaffa dan pindah ke Tel Aviv, sehingga populasi Tel Aviv meningkat menjadi sekitar 34.000 jiwa pada tahun 1925.[11][12]

1934: Independen dari Jaffa[sunting | sunting sumber]

Tel Aviv diberikan status munisipalitas independen yang terpisah dari Jaffa pada tahun 1934.[13]

Populasi Yahudi meningkat dramatis selama Aliyah Kelima ketika Nazi berkuasa di Jerman.[7] Pada tahun 1937 populasi Yahudi di Tel Aviv telah meningkat menjadi 150.000, dibandingkan dengan 69.000 penduduk Jaffa yang sebagian besar orang Arab. Gesekan selama pemberontakan Arab 1936–39 menyebabkan dibukanya pelabuhan Yahudi lokal yang terpisah dari Jaffa di tahun 1938. Pelabuhan ini ditutup pada 25 Oktober 1965. Bandar Udara Lydda (kini Bandar Udara Ben Gurion) dan Bandar Udara Sde Dov dibuka antara 1937 dan 1938.[7]

Selama Perang Dunia II, Tel Aviv dilanda serangan udara Italia pada 9 September 1940, menewaskan 137 jiwa.[14]

Selama Pemberontakan Yahudi, gerilyawan Yahudi Irgun dan Lehi melakukan serangan terhadap polisi, militer, dan otoritas Britania Raya di Tel Aviv. Setelah pengeboman Hotel King David di tahun 1946, Britania Raya menggeledah seluruh penjuru kota untuk memburu para gerilyawan Yahudi. Pada Maret 1947, Tel Aviv ditempatkan di bawah darurat militer oleh otoritas Britania Raya selama 15 hari, penduduk berada di bawah jam malam setiap saat, kecuali 3 jam sehari karena pasukan Britania menggeledah kota untuk memburu para gerilyawan. Meskipun demikian, serangan gerilya Yahudi berlanjut di Tel Aviv dan daerah lain di bawah darurat militer di Palestina.

Menurut Rencana Partisi PBB tahun 1947 untuk membagi Palestina menjadi negara Yahudi dan negara Arab, Tel Aviv yang saat itu berpenduduk 230.000 jiwa ditetapkan ke dalam negara Yahudi. Jaffa dengan 101.580 penduduk (sensus 1945) dengan mayoritas Muslim ditetapkan ke dalam negara Arab. Perang saudara pecah, khususnya antara kota Tel Aviv dan Jaffa yang bertetangga yang masing-masing termasuk ke negara Yahudi dan Arab. Setelah beberapa bulan pengepungan, pada 13 Mei 1948, Jaffa takluk dan penduduk Arab melarikan diri secara massal.

Ketika Israel mendeklarasikan kemerdekaannya pada 14 Mei 1948, populasi Tel Aviv lebih dari 200.000 jiwa. Tel Aviv adalah pusat pemerintahan sementara Israel sampai pemerintah pindah ke Yerusalem pada Desember 1949. Karena perselisihan internasional mengenai status Yerusalem, sebagian besar kedutaan tetap berada atau di sekitar Tel Aviv.[15]

Batas-batas Tel Aviv dan Jaffa menjadi bahan perdebatan antara pemerintah kota Tel Aviv dan pemerintah Israel di tahun 1948.[16] Yang pertama ingin penyatuan sebagian pinggiran utara kawasan Yahudi di Jaffa, sementara yang kedua ingin penyatuan yang lebih lengkap.[16] Isu itu juga memiliki sensitivitas internasional, karena menurut Rencana Partisi PBB, bagian utama Jaffa berada di kawasan Arab, sedangkan Tel Aviv tidak, dan belum ada perjanjian gencatan senjata yang ditandatangani.[16]

Pada 10 Desember 1948, pemerintah mengumumkan aneksasi Tel Aviv ke kawasan Yahudi di pinggir kota Jaffa, lingkungan Palestina di Abu Kabir, desa Arab Salama, dan perkampungan Yahudi Hatikva.[16] Pada tanggal 25 Februari 1949, desa Al-Shaykh Muwannis di Palestina yang tidak berpenghuni juga dianeksasi ke Tel Aviv.[16] Pada tanggal 18 Mei 1949, Manshiya dan sebagian zona tengah Jaffa dianeksasi, untuk pertama kalinya memasukkan tanah yang berada di kawasan Arab dari rencana partisi PBB.[16]

Pada awal 1970-an, Tel Aviv memasuki periode penurunan populasi. Di tahun 1981, Tel Aviv tidak hanya mengalami penurunan populasi alami, tetapi juga penurunan populasi absolut.[17] Pada akhir 1980-an, kota ini memiliki populasi yang menua sebanyak 317.000 jiwa.[18] Pada awal 1980-an, 13 kedutaan besar di Yerusalem dipindahkan ke Tel Aviv sebagai bagian dari tindakan PBB menanggapi Hukum Yerusalem 1980.[19] Saat ini, sebagian besar kedutaan berlokasi di Tel Aviv atau sekitarnya.[20]

Di tahun 1990-an, penurunan populasi Tel Aviv mulai stabil untuk sementara berkat gelombang imigran dari negara-negara bekas Uni Soviet.[21] Tel Aviv menyerap 42.000 imigran, banyak yang terdidik di bidang sains, teknologi, kedokteran, dan matematika.[22] Pada periode ini, jumlah insinyur di kota naik dua kali lipat.[23] Tel Aviv mulai muncul sebagai pusat teknologi canggih dunia,[24] disusul dengan banyaknya pembangunan gedung pencakar langit dan perkantoran berteknologi tinggi. Pada tahun 1993, Tel Aviv dikategorikan sebagai kota dunia.[25]

Pada tanggal 4 November 1995, perdana menteri Israel, Yitzhak Rabin dibunuh oleh seorang ekstremis sayap kanan pada rapat umum di Tel Aviv karena mendukung perjanjian perdamaian Oslo.[26]

Pada tahun 2000-an dan awal 2010-an, Tel Aviv menerima puluhan ribu imigran ilegal terutama dari Sudan dan Eritrea,[27] yang mengubah profil demografis wilayah kota.

Pada tahun 2009, Tel Aviv merayakan seratus tahun berdirinya kota.[28] Perayaan dilakukan di seantero kota dan negara, koleksi digital materi sejarah juga dikumpulkan. Selama 60 tahun terakhir, Tel Aviv telah berkembang menjadi pusat budaya sekuler dan liberal, dengan kehidupan malam yang semarak dan budaya kafe.[24]

Kota ini terletak 60 km dari barat laut Yerusalem dan 90 km dari selatan kota Haifa.[29] Kota-kota tetangganya meliputi Herzliyya di utara, Ramat HaSharon di timur laut, Petah Tikva, Bnei Brak, Ramat Gan, dan Giv'atayim di timur, Holon di tenggara, dan Bat Yam di selatan.[30] Kota ini secara ekonomi terstratifikasi antara bagian utara dan selatan. Tel Aviv selatan dianggap kurang makmur dibandingkan Tel Aviv utara kecuali Neve Tzedek dan Jaffa utara dan barat laut. Tel Aviv Pusat adalah rumah bagi Azrieli Center dan distrik keuangan dan perdagangan penting di sepanjang Jalan Tol Ayalon. Sisi utara Tel Aviv adalah rumah bagi Universitas Tel Aviv, Taman Hayarkon, dan lingkungan perumahan kelas atas seperti Ramat Aviv dan Afeka.[31]

Tel Aviv memiliki iklim Mediterania (klasifikasi iklim Köppen: Csa),[32] dan menikmati banyak sinar matahari sepanjang tahun. Sebagian besar presipitasi jatuh dalam bentuk hujan antara bulan Oktober dan April, dengan sela musim panas yang kering. Tel Aviv adalah rumah bagi berbagai gaya arsitektur yang mewakili periode-periode penting dalam sejarahnya. Arsitektur awal Tel Aviv sebagian besar terdiri dari rumah-rumah satu lantai bergaya Eropa dengan atap genteng merah.[33]

Neve Tzedek, lingkungan pertama yang dibangun di luar Jaffa memiliki ciri berupa oleh bangunan batu pasir berlantai dua.[34]

Pada tahun 1920-an, gaya Orientalis-Eklektik baru mulai populer, menggabungkan arsitektur Eropa dengan ciri-ciri Oriental seperti lengkungan, kubah, dan ubin hias.[34] Rumah Pagoda (Beit HaPagoda), dirancang oleh Alexander Levy dan dibangun pada tahun 1924, adalah contoh dari gaya ini.[35]

Pembangunan kota mengikuti rencana "kota kebun" yang dibuat oleh Patrick Geddes. Bangunan dua dan tiga lantai diselingi jalan raya dan taman umum.[34] Beragam gaya arsitektur seperti Art Deco, Klasik, dan Modernis juga dapat ditemukan di Tel Aviv.

Arsitektur Bauhaus diperkenalkan pada tahun 1920-an dan 1930-an oleh arsitek Yahudi Jerman yang bermigrasi ke Palestina setelah kebangkitan Nazi. Di sekitar pusat kota Tel Aviv, terdapat lebih dari 5.000 bangunan bergaya Modernis yang terinspirasi oleh sekolah Bauhaus dan Le Corbusier.[36]

Menara Shalom Meir, gedung pencakar langit pertama di Israel, dibangun di Tel Aviv pada tahun 1965 dan tetap menjadi bangunan tertinggi di negara itu hingga tahun 1999. Pada saat pembangunannya, bangunan tersebut menyaingi bangunan tertinggi di Eropa, dan merupakan yang tertinggi di Timur Tengah. Namun sekarang Tel Aviv tertinggal jauh oleh Qatar, Uni Emirate Arab dan Saudi Arabia yang menjadi daerah yang memiliki gedung tertinggi di dunia.

Pada November 2009, Haaretz melaporkan bahwa Tel Aviv memiliki 59 gedung pencakar langit dengan tinggi lebih dari 100 meter.[37] Saat ini, puluhan gedung pencakar langit telah disetujui atau sedang dibangun di seluruh kota, dan masih banyak lagi yang direncanakan. Tel Aviv menduduki peringkat ke-25 sebagai pusat keuangan paling penting di dunia.[39] Kegiatan ekonomi Tel Aviv menyumbang 17% dari PDB Israel.[40] Kota ini digambarkan sebagai "pusat teknologi yang berkembang" oleh Newsweek, dan "miniatur Los Angeles" oleh The Economist.[41][42] Pada tahun 1998, kota ini digambarkan oleh Newsweek sebagai salah satu dari 10 kota teknologi paling berpengaruh di dunia. Sejak saat itu, industri teknologi tinggi di wilayah Tel Aviv terus berkembang.[42] Wilayah metropolitan Tel Aviv (termasuk kota satelit seperti Herzliyya dan Petah Tikva) adalah pusat teknologi tinggi Israel, terkadang disebut sebagai Silicon Wadi.[42][43]

Universitas Tel Aviv adalah universitas terbesar di Israel. Universitas ini dikenal secara internasional untuk jurusan fisika, ilmu komputer, kimia, dan linguistiknya. Bersama dengan Universitas Bar-Ilan di Ramat Gan yang bertetangga, populasi mahasiswanya berjumlah lebih dari 50.000, termasuk mahasiswa internasional yang cukup besar.[48][49] Kampusnya terletak di lingkungan Ramat Aviv.[50] Tel Aviv juga memiliki beberapa kolese.[51] Gimnasium Ibrani Herzliya pindah dari Jaffa ke kota tua Tel Aviv pada tahun 1909, dan pindah ke Jalan Jabotinsky pada awal 1960-an. Tel Aviv menerima sekitar 2,5 juta turis asing setiap tahunnya, sebagai kota ke-5 yang paling banyak dikunjungi di Timur Tengah & Afrika.[54][55] Pada tahun 2010, survei kota dunia Knight Frank memeringkatnya ke-34 secara global.[56] Tel Aviv dinobatkan sebagai "kota terpanas tahun 2011" ke-3 (di belakang Kota New York dan Tangier) oleh Lonely Planet, terbaik ke-3 di Timur Tengah dan Afrika oleh majalah Travel + Leisure (di belakang Cape Town dan Yerusalem), dan kota pantai terbaik ke-9 di dunia menurut National Geographic.[57][58][59]

Tel Aviv dikenal sebagai "kota yang tidak pernah tidur" dan "ibu kota pesta" karena kehidupan malamnya yang berkembang pesat, suasana anak muda, dan budaya 24 jam yang terkenal.[60] Tel Aviv adalah pusat kehidupan malam internasional yang sangat aktif dan beragam dengan berbagai bar, bar dansa, dan klub malam yang tetap buka hingga lewat tengah malam.

Tel Aviv adalah pusat transportasi utama, dilayani oleh jaringan transportasi umum yang komprehensif, dengan banyak rute utama jaringan transportasi nasional yang melintasi kota.

Stasiun kereta api Tel Aviv Savidor Central adalah stasiun kereta api utama di Tel Aviv, dan stasiun tersibuk kedua di Israel. Kota ini memiliki lima stasiun kereta api tambahan di sepanjang Jalan Raya Ayalon: tiga di antaranya, Universitas Tel Aviv, HaShalom (stasiun tersibuk di Israel, bersebelahan dengan Azrieli Center) dan HaHagana (dekat terminal bus pusat Tel Aviv) yang melayani langsung Tel Aviv, sedangkan dua sisanya, Holon Junction dan Holon-Wolfson berada di dalam batas kota Tel Aviv, tetapi melayani pinggiran selatan Holon. Diperkirakan lebih dari satu juta penumpang melakukan perjalanan dengan kereta api ke Tel Aviv setiap bulan. Kereta tidak beroperasi pada hari Sabtu dan selama hari raya Yahudi (Rosh Hashanah (2 hari), Yom Kippur, Sukkot, Simkhat Torah, Pessach (Paskah), serta hari pertama dan kelima dan Shavuot (Pentakosta)).

Tel Aviv Light Rail adalah jaringan LRT untuk wilayah metropolitan Tel Aviv, dan per tahun 2021, tiga jalur LRT sedang dalam tahap pembangunan, dan diharapkan selesai pada akhir tahun 2022.[66][67] Selain itu, terdapat pula jaringan angkutan cepat Metro Tel Aviv yang sedang direncanakan, pembangunan baru dimulai pada tahun 2025 dan diperkirakan akan beroperasi pada tahun 2032.

Bandara utama yang melayani Tel Aviv Raya adalah Bandar Udara Internasional Ben Gurion (IATA: TLV). Terletak di kota tetangga Lod, bandara ini melayani lebih dari 20 juta penumpang pada tahun 2017. Ben Gurion adalah hub utama maskapai El Al, Arkia, Israir Airlines, dan Sun D'Or. Bandara ini terletak 15 km di tenggara Tel Aviv, di Jalan Raya 1 antara Tel Aviv dan Yerusalem. Sebelumnya terdapat pula Bandar Udara Sde Dov (IATA: SDV) di barat laut Tel Aviv, yang merupakan bandara domestik sampai dengan ditutup pada 2019 untuk mendukung pembangunan real estat.[68] Semua layanan di Bandar Udara Sde Dov akan dialihkan ke Bandar Udara Ben Gurion.

Seperti kota-kota lain di Israel, bus adalah bentuk transportasi publik yang paling umum dan digunakan secara luas. Stasiun bus pusat Tel Aviv terletak di bagian selatan kota. Jaringan bus utama di wilayah metropolitan Tel Aviv dioperasikan oleh Dan Bus Company, Metropoline, dan Kavim. Egged Bus Cooperative, perusahaan bus terbesar di Israel, menyediakan transportasi antarkota.[69]

Kota ini juga dilayani oleh angkutan kota (taksi bersama) baik lokal dan antar kota. Banyak rute bus lokal dan antar kota juga memiliki taksi sherut yang mengikuti rute yang sama dan menampilkan nomor rute yang sama di jendelanya.
