1960an dan 1970an menandai zaman keemasan film B independen, yang dibuat di luar studio-studio film besar. Karena tekanan penyensoran meningkat pada awal 1960an, akhir industri film Amerika berbiaya rendah makin menginkorporasikan penyusutan unsur-unsur seksual dan kekerasan yang telah lama diasosiasikan dengan film eksploitasi.
