Heliades
Dalam mitologi Yunani, Heliades (Yunani Kuno: berarti 'putri matahari') juga disebut Phaethontides[1] (berarti "putri Phaethon") adalah putri Helios dan Klymene, nimfa Okeanid.
Nama
[sunting | sunting sumber]Menurut satu versi yang catat oleh Hyginus, ada tujuh Heliades: Merope, Helie, Aegle, Lampetia, Phoebe, Aetheria dan Dioxippe.[2] Aeschylus menyebutkan Phaethousa dan Lampetia bagian dari Heliades,[3][4] yang juga disebut putri Neaera.[5] Seorang scholiast di Odyssey menyatakan Phaethusa, Lampetia dan Aegle sebagai Heliades.[6]
Dalam mitologi
[sunting | sunting sumber]Saudara laki-laki mereka, Phaethon, meninggal setelah mencoba mengendarai kereta ayahnya (Helios) melintasi langit. Dia tidak dapat mengendalikan keretanya hingga jatuh ke kematiannya (menurut sebagian besar catatan, Zeus menyerang keretanya dengan petir untuk menyelamatkan Bumi agar tidak terbakar). Heliades berduka selama empat bulan dan para dewa mengubahnya menjadi pohon poplar dan air mata mereka menjadi damar.[7][8] Menurut beberapa sumber, air mata mereka (amber) jatuh ke sungai Eridanus, di mana Phaethon jatuh.[9][10][11]
Menurut Hyginus, Heliades diubah menjadi pohon poplar karena mereka membantu memasangkan kereta Phaethon tanpa izin ayah mereka, Helios.[12]
