kecamatan prabumulih barat telah dimekarkan menjadi 3 kecamatan yaitu kec.prabumulih barat, kec. prabumulih utara dan kec. prabumulih selatan, yg telah diresmikan langsung oleh bpk gubernur sumsel pada tanggal 18 juli 2007. krn sebelum adanya pemekaran kec.pbm brt sendiri terdiri dari 10 kelurahan.
