Papirus 40 (bahasa Inggris: Papyrus 40; dalam penomoran Gregory-Aland diberi kode 40) adalah sebuah naskah papirus kuno berisi bagian Perjanjian Baru dari Alkitab Kristen dalam bahasa Yunani. Memuat Surat Roma; yang terlestarikan hanya pasal 1-4; 6; 9. Ditulis secara kurang cermat. Berdasarkan paleografi diperkirakan naskah ini dibuat pada abad ke-3.
Pemerian
Naskah papirus ini terdiri dari 5 fragmen, ditulis dalam kolom tunggal, kira-kira 35–36 baris per kolom. Berisi Surat Roma, yaitu Roma 1:24–27; 1:31–2:3; 3:21–4:8; 6:4–5.16; 9:16–17,27.[1]
Teks bahasa Yunani kodeks ini tergolong jenis teks Alexandria, lebih tepatnya proto-Alexandrian. Aland menyebutnya sebagai "Teks Bebas" ("Free text"), dan menempatkannya dalam Kategori I karena tarikhnya.[2]
Naskah ini lebih dekat dengan Codex Sinaiticus daripada Codex Alexandrinus dan Vaticanus.[3]
Lokasi
Saat ini disimpan pada Papyrussammlung der Universität pada Universitas Heidelberg (Inv. no. G 645).[2][4]
