Alexander Grothendieck (Jerman: [ˈɡroːtn̩diːk]; bahasa Prancis: [ɡʁɔtɛndik]; 28 Maret 1928 – 13 November 2014) adalah seorang matematikawan Prancis kelahiran Jerman yang menjadi tokoh terkemuka dalam penciptaan geometri aljabar modern.^[5]^[6] Ia merupakan tokoh yang menciptakan aljabar komutatif, aljabar homologis, teori himpunan, dan teori kategori. Pemikirannya yang dikenal dengan perspektif "relatif" berpengaruh besar dalam bidang matematika murni.^[5]

Lahir di Jerman, Grothendieck besar dan tinggal di Prancis. Ia menjalani sebagian besar masa hidupnya dengan tanpa kewarganegaraan.^[1]
