Sidang Westminster

Sidang Para Teolog Westminster adalah sebuah dewan para teolog ("divines") dan anggota Parlemen Inggris yang ditunjuk dari tahun 1643 hingga 1653 untuk merestrukturisasi Gereja Inggris. Beberapa orang Skotlandia juga hadir, dan hasil kerja Sidang tersebut diadopsi oleh Gereja Skotlandia. Sebanyak 121 pendeta dipanggil ke dalam Sidang, dan 19 pendeta lainnya ditambahkan kemudian untuk menggantikan mereka yang tidak hadir atau tidak dapat hadir lagi. Sidang ini menghasilkan Bentuk Pemerintahan Gereja, sebuah Pengakuan Iman, dua katekismus atau pedoman untuk pengajaran agama (Kecil dan Besar), dan sebuah pedoman bagi liturgi, Pedoman Ibadah Umum, untuk Gereja Inggris dan Gereja Skotlandia. Pengakuan Iman Westminster dan Katekismus Westminster diadopsi sebagai standar doktrinal di Gereja Skotlandia dan gereja Presbiterian lainnya, di mana mereka tetap bersifat normatif. Versi Pengakuan Iman yang dimodifikasi juga diadopsi di gereja-gereja Kongregasional dan Baptis di Inggris dan New England pada abad ketujuh belas dan kedelapan belas. Pengakuan Iman ini menjadi sangat berpengaruh di seluruh dunia berbahasa Inggris, terutama dalam teologi Protestan Amerika.
