Berdasarkan pada jumlah pengikut, Gereja Ortodoks Timur (juga dikenal sebagai Ortodoks Timur) adalah persekutuan Kristen terbesar kedua di dunia setelah Gereja Katolik Roma.^[1] Perkiraan paling umum dari jumlah umat Kristen Ortodoks Timur di seluruh dunia adalah sekitar 200–260 juta.^[2]^[3]^[4]^[5] Jumlah kelompok Protestan di seluruh dunia, jika dihitung secara keseluruhan, mengalahkan jumlah Ortodoks Timur,^[6] namun karena gereja-gereja Protestan memiliki perbedaan teologi, Protestan tidak membentuk sebuah persekutuan tunggal.^[7]
