Doktrin Hallstein, diambil dari nama Walter Hallstein, adalah doktrin utama dalam kebijakan luar negeri Republik Federal Jerman (Jerman Barat) setelah tahun 1955. Menurut tulisan yang beredar, doktrin ini menyatakan bahwa Republik Federal Jerman tidak akan membina atau mempertahankan hubungan diplomatik dengan negara manapun yang mengakui Republik Demokratik Jerman (Jerman Timur). Kenyataannya, doktrin ini memiliki makna yang berbeda. Tidak ada teks resmi dari "doktrin" ini. Namun demikian, doktrin ini dijelaskan secara terbuka dalam sebuah wawancara radio[1] oleh perancang utamanya, Wilhelm Grewe. Konrad Adenauer juga menjelaskan garis besar kebijakan ini melalui penjelasannya di hadapan parlemen Jerman tanggal 22 September 1955.[1]

Doktrin tersebut berarti bahwa apabila negara ketiga mengakui atau membina hubungan diplomatik dengan Republik Demokratik Jerman (kecuali Uni Soviet selaku bagian dari Empat Kekuatan yang berpengaruh di Jerman), pemerintah federal Jerman akan menganggap tindakan tersebut tidak bersahabat.[2][3]:58–61 Tanggapan atas tindakan tidak bersahabat seringkali dipahami sebagai pemutusan hubungan diplomatik, namun pemutusan hubungan tersebut bukan keputusan utama, melainkan keputusan paling akhir (ultima ratio).[1]

Aspek-aspek penting doktrin ini ditinggalkan setelah tahun 1970 karena sulit dipertahankan dan pemerintah federal mengubah arah politiknya terhadap Republik Demokratik Jerman.[4]:19
